January 6 commission praises Pence's 'courage' in standing up to Trump 4:24
(CNN) --
John Wood, lead investigator for the House Jan. 6 committee, is leaving his post this week, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.
The source said the departure is earlier than expected because Wood is being encouraged to run for Senate in Missouri and pointed to the recent controversy over Senate candidate Eric Greitens' announcement.

Wood is the commission's chief investigative adviser, as well as an adviser to Vice President Liz Cheney.
His departure comes as the commission continues to investigate and receive new information.
Wood had a high-profile moment interviewing Judge Michael Luttig at a hearing last week.
