District – At the G7 summit, the schools in the district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen are going into distance learning.

As the reply to a letter from Katharina Schulze (Bündnis 90/ DIE GRÜNEN) to the Bavarian Ministry of Education revealed, this also applies to elementary schools.

The GREENS Garmisch-Partenkirchen think this is unnecessary and complain about the lack of care offers.

The preparation and implementation of the G7 summit in the Schloßhotel Elmau entails many security precautions and thus major restrictions for all Garmisch-Partenkirchen citizens.

The restricted areas around the Elmauer valley, the numerous traffic restrictions, the border controls and last but not least the closed sports facilities, halls, ski stadium etc.

Nevertheless, the responsible government officials often emphasized that the impact on the everyday life of local citizens should be kept as small as possible.

The local commercial enterprises should be able to keep their operations running smoothly, holiday guests should continue to be welcome, hikes around Garmisch-Partenkirchen and thus leisure activities should continue to be possible.

The only thing that is bindingly closed are the schools again.

The associated problems in secondary schools and the upcoming exams have already been discussed at length.

But in particular, Philipp Golka, spokesman for the Green OV Garmisch-Partenkirchen, considers the transfer of almost all elementary school students in the district to homeschooling to be superfluous: “Restricting mobility in the district during the summit days still seems plausible to me.

But it is still a mystery to me to what extent the safety of the Seehausen elementary school students on their way to school is affected by the G7 summit.”

The primary schools in particular often have a manageable catchment area and are within walking distance for most children.

Karina Winkler, spokeswoman for the Green OV Garmisch-Partenkirchen, also says: "Here we would have wished for a more differentiated approach by the Ministry of Education.

The primary schools in Grainau or in the northern district could certainly have been evaluated differently than, for example, the Garmisch-Partenkirchen schools in the catchment area of the demonstrations on Monday.”

A reply to the letter from Katharina Schulze, leader of the GREEN party in the Bavarian state parliament, to the Bavarian Ministry of Education brought forth the information that only the primary schools in Bad Kohlgrub and Unterammergau were closed from Friday, June 24th.

until Tuesday, 28.06.

offer face-to-face classes.

This is due to the security situation and the difficult journey for the teachers.

But even this reason does not satisfy Philipp Golka: "The difficult journey applies to all employees in the district.

If all other businesses should continue to work, why not the elementary schools too – with limited operations, if you like?”

Finally, most schools will not provide emergency care during the three days of distance learning.

It is therefore up to the parents to provide morning care.

This brings back unpleasant memories of the lockdowns of the pandemic: the parents always have to pay for it - it's a shame that no one learned anything here.
