Schongau – Experience the diversity of the different cultures and celebrate together: On Saturday, June 25, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., the intercultural festival “Schongau is colorful” will take place on Marienplatz.

The afternoon offers numerous program items: face painting and unusual hairstyles, a country quiz, information stands and much more.

There are also various show interludes from the dance group to a clown to live music.

The members of the district's integration advisory board are preparing a photo show that shows impressions from many countries.

There are African, Syrian and Turkish specialties to try.

In view of the Ukraine war, the organizers have considered whether they should actually hold the long-planned festival.

"But we quickly agreed: our democracy is strong in and through diversity - and celebrating this diversity is extremely important, especially in such difficult times," says Isabel Heller, honorary coordinator of the Schongau Helpers' Circle.

"We look forward to spending a nice afternoon with lots of people and bringing the motto 'Schongau is colourful' to life."

Of course, the speakers for social affairs and integration Esra Böse and Gregor Schuppe are also involved in “Schongau is colorful”.

You recently reported to the city council about your activities in this post.

The office covers two aspects, on the one hand for people who have been here for many years, but also for people who have only been here for a short time, says Schuppe.

Böse particularly addressed the refugees from Ukraine who had been arriving since February.

The willingness to help in Schongau is immense, she emphasized.

Among other things, an ice cream meal was organized for all refugee families - not just from Ukraine.

Despite the language barrier, friendships developed, Böse continued.

In addition to expanding the internet presence, for example on Facebook and Instagram, the two speakers hope for more face-to-face events in the future.
