A groundbreaking date is pending for the district of Ebersberg: a decision is to be made in July as to where two new tracks to the Brenner will be planned.

District

– Less than a month, then the cat will be out of the bag: On Wednesday, July 13, Deutsche Bahn wants to announce which of the five main routes for the northern access to the Brenner Pass came out best in the selection process and should therefore be built – the so-called priority road.

A company spokesman confirmed the decision date at the request of the

Ebersberger Zeitung

.

Five suggestions - all cause concern

So far, the lines of five possible variants between Aßling and Grafing train station have run through the southern district of Ebersberg.

They all, pink, lime, red, orange and turquoise, cause concern in the region with their different tunnel and bridge shares, since the planned two additional tracks, which are scheduled to go into operation in 2040, require massive construction work.

Applause for the Bürgertrasse

The latest in the process is the turquoise variant, created from the citizens' suggestions by the Asslinger engineer Andreas Brandmaier and the Brucker mayor Josef Schwäbl (CSU).

It spontaneously met with great applause in the region because it was largely based on the course of the two existing tracks.

Large protests in the region were initially caused by the fear of the destruction of the landscape between Aßling and Grafing.

There, the proposals of orange, red, yellow and lime and pink would cut the landscape into parts - with the pink variant, which is the only one that also touches the area of the municipality of Bruck, being the most unlikely candidate because of its detour curve.

Criticism of the close-to-existence expansion

Most recently, however, the turquoise “Bürgertrasse” (Bürgertrasse) also aroused resistance, especially in Aßling, where the two additional tracks would run through the station alongside the existing ones (also the case with the orange variant).

A loose citizens' initiative called "Protects Aßling and the Atteltal" warns of a large burden due to high numbers of trains and a previous lengthy construction site in the village as well as a momentous intersection of the Atteltal with a bridge structure.

The initiative rejects the existing extension and calls for the largest possible tunnel sections - a concern that the railways repeatedly countered with reference to unrealistically high construction costs.

The initiative has meanwhile collected 648 supporter signatures and handed them over to the mayor.

A letter from the initiative to the Bavarian state government is answered in a letter that is available to the editors: "The Bavarian state government will continue to work for a resident-friendly route with a high proportion of underground routes." However, this is the task of the route selection process of the railways and the subsequent, specified planning steps in which those affected could bring in their concerns.

Bahn refers to coordinated criteria

The railway does not comment in advance on the individual variant candidates and refers to the selection process accompanied by the University of Innsbruck.

This is done using a transparent catalog of criteria.

This was coordinated with participants in the dialogue forum from the region, including politicians and representatives of interest groups.

The Deutsche Bahn promises that the selection process and the decision will be publicly explained in detail on July 13th.
