One lane less on the B 2

From next Wednesday, June 29th, the junction of Gautinger Straße and Münchner Straße (B 2) will be closed again. The reason for this is the final work on the new crossing, specifically it is about a traffic island as a crossing aid for pedestrians. The work is expected to last until July 11th.

Starnberg – The closure begins next Wednesday at around 9.30 a.m., i.e. after rush hour.

The junction is then sealed, Gautinger Strasse is blocked around 60 meters to the north - a lane of Münchner Strasse is also blocked towards the city centre.

"The shops and driveways are continuously accessible - coming from the north on Gautinger Strasse in the direction of the B 2," the state building authority in Weilheim announced yesterday.

A detour via Petersbrunner Strasse will be signposted, which makes sense for traffic heading towards the city center and is also necessary for drivers going to Gautinger Strasse.

The closures are in effect until July 8th.

Traffic from the city towards the Autobahn will not be affected.

There can be no conflicts with the construction site, because since the beginning of the month, due to the completion of the traffic island on Münchner Strasse, turning left onto Gautinger Strasse is no longer possible anyway.

What is being built?

In addition to the already completed, approximately 50-meter-long central island on the B 2, the Weilheim authorities are having a new traffic island, a so-called triangle island, known in professional circles as the "Trumpet", at the junction of Gautinger Strasse and Münchner Strasse.

It will have a traffic light system and "in future will offer the Starnberg population two additional pedestrian crossing aids via Gautinger Straße in the west/north direction and east/north direction", according to a statement.

From Friday, July 8, 8 p.m., until probably Monday, July 11, around 6 a.m., the road surface on the B 2 will be repaired over a length of about 100 meters towards the city center north of the new central island as well as the approximately 60-meter stretch of Gautinger Straße newly paved.

Gautinger Strasse will remain closed during this time, and traffic on the B 2 will be guided in one lane in each direction on Münchner Strasse south of the new traffic island - this again means there is a risk of traffic jams, as drivers coming from the Autobahn can use Petersbrunner Strasse to avoid traffic , but there is no easy alternative route from the direction of the city.

Pedestrians can use existing paths and crossings during the construction period.

According to the state building authority, the measure has no effect whatsoever on the bus lines – they continue to drive via Moosstraße.
