Opinion | The experiment with the Arabs has not even begun Israel today

2022-06-22T20:36:26.150Z

Anyone who really wants to create a partnership experiment with Israeli Arabs here should strive, for example, to include them in his party. • Anyone who wants a real partnership can not remind them every day that they are an "experiment"

After the announcement of the outgoing prime minister, Naftali Bennett, and the incoming prime minister, Yair Lapid, about the dissolution of the Knesset, many declared, just like MK Orbach, that the experiment failed.

This is in light of the fact that a major part of the coalition's inability to function was due to the conduct of some of the Knesset members.

The "experiment failed" sought to argue that the connection with the moderate Arabs was unsuccessful.

The question must arise, was the experiment about integrating the Arabs or more of an attempt to get rid of Netanyahu?

The Jewish-American writer Paul Oster wrote: "Failure does not negate the sincerity of experience."

It seems to me that going to the polls must also examine the sincerity of the attempt to bring about Arab-Jewish cooperation in the current Knesset.

In an extensive interview given by Bennett Lennon Sickle and White Mercury on January 3, 2021, he said:

"Mansour Abbas is a sister movement of Hamas. Both are subsidiary movements of the world Muslim Brotherhood. It's just inconceivable. To appeal to the Arab public is welcome. Going to cooperate with the PM is a completely crazy thing ... what will happen? An alliance of more benefits, what's the deal? A deal of benefits, a flow of money just for those of us who do not want to flow money, to the Islamic movement. The Arab public is part of the State of Israel, we need to bring it closer. "The Hamas sister movement in Israel is a shame and a disgrace."

Bennett's principled attitude towards Abbas probably did not really change, but the deal and allowances were in his favor this time.

We met them whenever the fear arose that there would be a missing finger.

RAAM was added to a coalition that was two and a half days of Netanyahu's opponents and that was its secret recipe, it was not added to the coalition to improve, correct and arrange the State of Israel's relations with its Arab citizens.

The statements on the subject came after the principled move that created the government, a "just not Bibi" government.

Those who made it up hoped that its very establishment would cause Netanyahu to disappear from the political arena.

Thus, by the way, they declared - "finished his historic role", but the latter less cooperated.

Netanyahu managed to keep the bloc around him united, connected and without "rebels."

The rebels actually came from the other side, the value of "just not Bibi" could not be used as a strong enough glue, other values, aspirations and principles surpassed it.

Anyone who really wants to create an experiment of partnership with Israeli Arabs here should strive, for example, to include them in his party, whoever wants a real partnership can not remind them every day that they are an "experiment".

Anyone who claims that the partnership experiment fails is wrong and misleads the public.

There was no such experiment, the "sincerity of the experience" in this case does not exist, and therefore the great failure is not in the Arabs, in the RAAM or in Abbas. Netanyahu's horizon to return.

He, for his part, acted stubbornly, initiative and patience to dissolve the glue.

The experiment failed, not with the Arabs but among those who hold "just not Bibi."

In order for Israel to be able to move forward, it is appropriate to find a place in the leadership for the entire population.

In light of the overthrow of the government, the Likud and Netanyahu are standing the test of the ability to form a government in the current Knesset.

In the past, the Likud knew how to produce collaborations: with Shaul Mofaz from Kadima, with Ehud Barak, with Bnei Gantz, with Lapid and there is a future.

The common denominator was the desire to make Israel a better place.

This ambition was the author's glue.

It is time for the Likud and Netanyahu to prove once again that this is their goal.

If they submit such a work plan to the Israeli public and to the Knesset members, if they know how to create cooperative governance mechanisms that will ensure management, balances and brakes within the theoretical coalition, they will increase the chances that we will avoid unnecessary elections and form a government.

Were we wrong?
