District – It is “the greatest test for us in the post-war period,” police chief Manfred Hauser describes the G7 summit in 2022. The circumstances are different this year than they were in 2015.

The security measures that await the arriving guests are correspondingly sensitive.

Two security areas have been set up around the Schloss Elmau conference venue, which have been closed since June 19, 2022.

Since then, access has only been possible for accredited persons.

An area of approximately 4 ½ square kilometers around the conference venue will be secured by the police.

Particular attention is paid to the right balance between safety precautions and the requirements of nature conservation.

All construction measures will be dismantled immediately after the summit, the police chief assures.

In order to ensure this high level of security, around 18,000 people will ensure security at peak times, who are “prepared for any situation”.

These safety concepts, which were specially developed for emergencies, are currently still being tested, which can lead to increased aircraft noise, among other things.

Police President Manfred Hauser apologizes for this.

He is well aware of the restrictions that the summit entails for residents of the district, as well as for holidaymakers.

"But it will pass again!" he encourages.

There will be temporary traffic disruptions and you should plan a little more travel time.

However, destination and source traffic in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen area remains possible in principle.

Unnecessary trips are not recommended.

Those arriving to the Passion Play in Oberammergau are advised to set off in good time and to carry a valid ID and entry ticket with them.

Protest camp of the G7 opponents

The Garmisch-Partenkirchen market has approved the operation of a tent camp in the local Loisachauen in the period from June 23rd to 30th, 2022.

The so-called “camp” is intended to provide overnight accommodation for up to 750 people.

Police President Hauser emphasized that the protection of fundamental rights has top priority for everyone involved.

This applies equally to the smooth course of the G7 summit in 2022 and the safety of the participants, but also to the rights of the population and the protection of the camp residents.

Here, too, the Bavarian police rely on communication and de-escalation with their own communication teams, but also demands a willingness to cooperate on all sides.

In the event of administrative offenses or criminal offences, but especially against violent offenders,

gatherings

Currently, a total of 13 meetings in connection with the G7 summit have been reported for the district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

On Sunday, June 26, from 1 p.m., “a moving assembly” will take place in Garmisch-Partenkirchen with around 1,000 participants;

the demo begins at the station square and, as in 2015, initially moves towards the town hall square.

On Monday, June 27th, starting at 9:00 a.m., there will be a star march towards Elmau, which will be divided into four routes, each with around 100 participants.

Around 50 demonstrators can express their protest directly in the security area at a final rally within sight and hearing of the conference hotel.

Ultimately, it is about reconciling the requirements for security and the fundamental right to freedom of assembly.

The authorities rely on communication and de-escalation.

The basic rule for all assemblies is that emergency and rescue routes must be kept clear.

availability of the police

The police can still be reached around the clock on the Internet, social media channels and on the free public hotline on 0800 / 77 66 330 for all questions relating to the police operation at the G7 summit.

The two citizens' offices in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Krün town halls will also remain open.

Police President Manfred Hauser, like District Administrator Anton Speer, wishes for a peaceful summit.

"All emergency services should come home healthy," said Hauser.
