Odessa - In the Ukraine war, there was renewed heavy fighting for Snake Island in the Black Sea.

Russia occupied the 17-hectare island shortly after the war began - it is strategically located 35 kilometers south of the city of Odessa.

Anyone who controls them can monitor the airspace on the Ukrainian Black Sea coast from there.

Now the Ukrainian army has made an attempt to recapture Snake Island - and probably hit Vladimir Putin's troops hard in the process.

As the responsible Ukrainian commander explains in a Facebook video, Ukraine has launched a targeted attack on the island.

"There was a concentrated strike using multiple methods of destruction," the commander announced, according to a translation of British newspaper

The Guardian

.

The Russian troops stationed on the island suffered "significant casualties".

War in Ukraine: Ukraine wants to recapture Snake Island - landing maneuver probably failed

The Russian military, on the other hand, emphasizes that it successfully repelled the "crazy" attack by Ukraine.

This was stated by the spokesman for the Russian Ministry of Defense Igor Konashenkov.

The Ukrainian army would have planned air strikes and artillery fire, then land and take Snake Island.

15 attack and reconnaissance drones from Ukraine were involved, while rocket launchers and howitzers fired at the island.

Russian forces shot down 13 drones, 4 Tochka-U rockets and 21 reactive missiles from the Uragan rocket launcher.

The Ukrainian soldiers were then forced to abandon the planned landing maneuver.
