The annual exercise of the three Andechs fire brigades burst this year in the middle of the municipal council meeting.

And the emergency services are well represented in local politics.

Andechs/Frieding – Mayor Georg Scheitz nervously tapped his cell phone a few times before his cell phone alarm went off in the middle of the council meeting on Tuesday.

"Heavy smoke.

People in danger,” it said, and the next cell phones rang.

Because all three local rescue services from Andechs were alerted, and the fire brigade is well represented at the council table.

"What do we do now?" Scheitz asked the group.

The agenda was far from finished.

But if all firefighters had left, "then the meeting is over", then the round would no longer have been quorate.

You could see that he – himself still an active firefighter – would have liked to jump up or be finished.

But as it was, he missed the annual exercise of all three weirs by about an hour and a half.

The commanders of the local defense forces hatched the exercise, Stefan Sedlmayr was the head of operations, because there was a "fire" in the Frieding clubhouse.

Above all, breathing apparatus wearers were in demand, as there were "missing people" in the basement who first had to be found.

The first person was saved 15 minutes after the alarm was raised.

Sedlmayr is proud.

A total of 40 to 45 emergency services followed the alarm, enough breathing apparatus wearers.

A good cut, he thought.

Once a year, the three local fire services from Andechs carry out such an exercise in order to perfect the interaction - and ultimately to cultivate the community.

Scheitz, who rushed to the "scene of the fire" with Florian Frey and Christian Kaiser, knew that too, even if they were much too late.
