A few days ago (21st), a fire broke out at a CLP cable bridge near Long Ping Station in Yuen Long, causing a large-scale power outage in Tin Shui Wai, Yuen Long and Tuen Mun. In addition to "candlelight dinner" at home, some people also brought chargers to shopping malls for mobile phones

A few days ago (21st), a CLP cable bridge near Long Ping Station in Yuen Long caught fire, causing a large-scale power outage in Tin Shui Wai, Yuen Long and Tuen Mun. In addition to "candlelight dinner" at home, some people also brought chargers to the shopping mall to charge their mobile phones. Or sit on the light rail all night for air conditioning.

Seeing the scene of "walking in trouble" all night, many citizens are worried about the stability of the power supply in their communities. However, CLP refused to disclose the location of the other three cable bridges in Hong Kong, citing security reasons.

Neighbors found that there was also a cable bridge of the same type on Mei Tin Road, Tai Wai, and believed that it was responsible for supplying electricity to the entire Shatin and Ma On Shan area.

CLP Corporate Development President Zhuang Weiyin explained the blackout incident earlier, saying that in addition to the cable bridge involved, CLP has three other similar cable bridges.

Among them, there is a cable bridge with similar design on Mei Tin Road, Tai Wai, near Meicheng Garden.

A reporter from Hong Kong 01 visited the site today (23rd) and saw that the bridge spanned the Shing Mun River. The bridge was sealed in grey with the CLP logo on it.

After the fire broke out at the Long Ping Cable Bridge, the representative of the Electrical Division of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, Law Wai-chou, estimated that overloading may be involved, that is, excessive current, and explained that the weather has been hot recently, and the day of the accident was the summer solstice. In the past, it was between 6 and 7 pm. This is the peak period of electricity consumption in Hong Kong. Since many citizens may turn on the air conditioner after returning home, and the office has not been closed, the electricity consumption is generally higher.

If the cable current is too large and goes unnoticed, there is a chance of overheating and fire.

Some neighbors worry about whether the cable bridge in Tai Wai, like the one in Long Ping, is supplying power to many districts, and in the hot summer, the electricity consumption of nearby housing estates may also increase greatly, and whether there is a chance of overheating and fire accidents. In addition to making more preparations, they also hope that CLP will conduct more inspections.

In addition, at the footbridge opposite the Fu Kin Garden in Tuen Mun, there are high-voltage cables hidden in the stone ledge in the center of the road, which is one example of the high-voltage cables and pedestrians sharing the footbridge.

It is understood that high-voltage cables are also laid under the footpath of the Chek Lap Kok South Road flyover leading to the airport; there is another similar suspected cable bridge in the area of Fo Tan and the University.

Chen Shaoxiong, a member of the legislature who is a senior consultant of CLP, said in an earlier interview that although the cables were designed 30 years ago, they will not be very old. Protection systems and backup cables, etc., appeal to the public not to worry.

Regarding the concerns of some neighbors, if there is an accident at the cable bridge in Tai Wai, the power supply service of the entire Shatin District will be affected. The chairman of the Shatin District Council, Mak Yun Pui, pointed out that he has been in close contact with CLP and said that he will discuss with other district councillors. We will see if we will send a letter to CLP to pay attention to the incident in the future, or follow up at the District Council.

Mak believes that accidents are unavoidable, and he can only ask CLP to conduct more inspections and complete repairs as soon as possible after the event. He also pointed out that there was an accident at the substation in Lei On Village in the past, and described CLP's response at that time very quickly, within 3 to 4 hours. Repair is completed.

Regarding CLP's refusal to disclose the location of the remaining cable bridges for security reasons, Mak Runpei believes that the cable bridges are located in public places, and CLP has the responsibility to explain and disclose relevant information to the district council and the public. Notice it.

Hong Kong 01 is inquiring with CLP on the incident.
