First it was the turn of the Autobahn again, then the Chancellery, and now city traffic.

Climate protectionists also implemented their blockade threats on Thursday.

Berlin – Climate protection demonstrators paralyzed a central intersection in Berlin-Friedrichshain with a large sit-in blockade and caused traffic jams for kilometers.

Around 50 demonstrators from the rather small initiative "Last Generation" sat on Thursday morning from around 8 a.m. at the intersection at Frankfurter Tor, where Frankfurter Allee, Karl-Marx-Allee, Warschauer Strasse and Petersburger Strasse meet.

Many blockers had stuck, reported a dpa photographer.

The police were there.

Some drivers reacted angrily.

Only the tram and cyclists could continue.

A large part of the car traffic from the eastern parts of the city drives through this intersection in the morning towards the city centre.

The traffic information center (VIZ Berlin) tweeted: "In Friedrichshain there is an unannounced demonstration at the Frankfurter Tor.

There are traffic jams in the entire area.” The climate protection initiative “Last Generation” wrote on the Internet about a video of the campaign: “Frankfurter Tor blocked in all directions.

The civilian resistance against the government failure in the climate emergency is in the heart of Berlin today.”

In the past few months, the initiative had mainly blocked motorway exits and roads in Berlin and other cities.

A few weeks ago she called for a central week of action in Berlin, in which supporters from all over Germany should take part.

Nevertheless, the number of participants in the past few days has always remained well below 100.

The activists blocked freeways again on Monday and Tuesday, and on Wednesday they smeared black paint on a wall of the Federal Chancellery.

Dozens of demonstrators have been temporarily arrested and released by the police in recent days.

The initiative calls for more measures to combat global warming.
