At the end of the cultivation process for the current season, the areas planted with summer crops and vegetables in As-Suwayda Governorate reached 11520 dunums.
The Assistant Director of Agriculture in As-Suwayda, Engineer Alaa Shehayeb, said in a statement to SANA reporter today that the cultivated areas were distributed by 8760 dunums for irrigated areas, with an implementation rate of 117 percent of the 7,480-donum plan, and 2,750 dunams for rain, with an implementation rate of 84 percent of the 3260-donum plan.
Shehayeb indicated that there was a clear demand for irrigated crops, especially for tomatoes and watermelons, pointing to the importance of summer crops to secure local needs and provide a source of income for workers in this field.
Shehayeb explained that the cultivation of summer crops and vegetables in Suwayda for the current season included varieties of tomatoes, red and yellow watermelons, potatoes, eggplant, cucumbers, cucumbers, peppers, zucchini, beans and sesame.
As-Suwayda Governorate's production of summer crops and vegetables during the last season exceeded 94 thousand tons.
