For years, we didn't even have to ask ourselves the question: a pair of flippers, a
mask and a snorkel
were the only equipment available to discover the seabed easily, without embarking on scuba diving with bottles, much more technical.
Snorkeling, which consists of swimming on the surface of the water with a minimum of equipment, is a very widespread leisure activity.
In 2014, Decathlon engineers revolutionized this practice by creating a
full-face mask
, which encompasses the entire face.
The device offers better vision than a classic model and more comfort for breathing.

The price
You can find snorkeling equipment for all budgets.
Decathlon offers
“mask and snorkel”
packs for beginners sold between €10 and €20.
The Subea Easybreath range is a little more expensive, from 25 to 30 €, depending on the model.
At Beauchat, the prices are higher: it takes €34.90 for a full-face mask and at least €33.90 for a classic mask with its snorkel.

Comfort
Breathing with your head underwater is unnatural.
The full face mask has the enormous advantage of encompassing the entire face.
It allows you to inhale and exhale through your nose and mouth, which is not possible with a classic mask and snorkel.
The integral model also offers better visibility, the surface of the glass being much larger.
The choice
Decathlon was alone on the market for full-face masks for a long time, so the offer was limited.
For some time there have been competitors to its Easybreath range.
You can now find them at Beuchat, for example, or on sites specializing in diving equipment.
But the choice remains anecdotal given the number of references available in the category of classic snorkeling equipment.
Avoid items sold in beach shops or supermarkets, which are often too cheap and uncomfortable.

Ease of use
The full face mask is much easier to put on than the classic model.
The adjustable straps positioned at the back of the skull provide good support.
This is essential to prevent water from entering and to avoid the appearance of fog on the glass.
Traditional equipment is a little more complicated to position: you have to place the mask correctly on your face to avoid water leaks and put the snorkel properly on your side.
You can apply an anti-fog product to the porthole for more comfort and better vision underwater.
Volume
Since it covers the entire face, the full-face mask is cumbersome.
Even if the snorkel part is removable, it still takes up space in a travel bag, especially if each member of the family wants to take their own.
Classic masks and snorkels are generally less embarrassing, and easier to dispatch in luggage.
