The world public is eagerly awaiting it: the G7 summit begins on Sunday at Schloss Elmau.

This also has an impact on the Weilheim-Schongau district.

District – Security is the top priority at the G7 summit, so the police have been preparing for the three-day meeting for months.

Up to 18,000 officers from all over Germany will be on duty.

For days, the increased presence in the Weilheim-Schongau district can no longer be overlooked, after all, many of the police officers who have arrived have moved into accommodation in the region.

The police stations in Weilheim, Schongau and Penzberg also had to second staff for the summit meeting.

However, detailed information about the number is not possible, the G7 press office reports on request.

But nobody has to worry about understaffed departments, they assure us.

"The staff cuts are largely compensated for not least by a vacation ban."

There could be traffic jams on the roads

If you plan to visit the neighboring district by car in the next few days, you should definitely plan more time.

The police press office announced that as of today, Thursday, there will be a wide-ranging diversion of national through traffic around Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

For this purpose, around 20 control points would be set up in the immediate operational area of Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Mittenwald, but also in the supra-regional area.

For tactical reasons, however, no information can be given about exactly where these will be located.

The police therefore advises paying attention to traffic reports and avoiding trips that are not absolutely necessary, especially in the Garmisch area.

And the police have one more request: if you normally like to leave your ID card at home, you should pocket it in the next few days so that you can show it when asked.

This enables faster processing at the control points.

The district office does not expect major restrictions

The district office is optimistic that there will otherwise be no major restrictions for citizens in the district.

The press office reports that it was not necessary to send any more staff beyond the three employees who have already been assigned to Garmisch.

And the situation at the Oberland rescue service and fire brigade alerting association based in Weilheim is currently relaxed.

Although one was involved in the preparations, larger operations by the fire brigade and rescue service from the district are not planned, says the responsible department head Helmut Stork.

"That would only change if there was a major situation."
