Even those who want to go hiking or swimming have to plan their excursion meticulously.
The 2022 G7 summit in Elmau, which will take place from Sunday, June 26th to Tuesday, June 28th, is casting its shadow.

Hardly anyone is surprised that the area around the venue was hermetically sealed off.

Congress building, ski stadium and Wittelsbacher Park completely closed.
And that at least until the end of June, sometimes even until mid-July.
Those at Kainzenbad, Friedhof Partenkirchen and Rathaus are only partially available.
The car park at Marienplatz will remain closed during the three summit days.

Nothing is working at the moment at the valley stations of the Kreuzeck and Wankbahn either.
"Fortunately, we have the car park at the Eibsee to ourselves," says Klaus Schanda, Head of Marketing at Bayerische Zugspitzbahn (BZB).
Since it is still not possible to travel by train after the tragic train accident near Burgrain, "visitor guidance does not work".
However, Schanda, like Michael Gerber, Managing Director of GaPa-Tourism, assumes that this is not necessary.
"The police's communication strategy, which advises driving around Garmisch-Partenkirchen as far as possible, is working perfectly, the day visitor avoids our place." He and his colleagues are therefore preparing for two relaxed weeks.
The mountain railways still run as usual.
The only exception: the Alpspitz and Hochalmbahn.
"We're now going to do an audit on them in peace."
G7 summit in Elmau: police rent Eckbauerbahn
Nothing works on the Eckbauerbahn, which was rented by the police until June 28th.
From the mountain station, you can finally reach Elmau in about a three-hour hike.
A four square kilometer exclusion zone has been set up around the castle since Sunday morning.

Among other things, with the Eckbauerbahn, which takes its passengers in six-seater gondolas to an altitude of 1236 meters, police officers should be able to reach parts of their operational area more easily.
"The rental of the Eckbauerbahn by the police is used to transfer forces to the area of operations," the police said when asked by the dpa.
This was also the case at the G7 summit in 2015.

All parking spaces and bus stops along the B 2 between Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Mittenwald are also blocked.
"Due to police traffic measures," explains Chief Inspector Lisa Hierl from the G7 press office.
Most of the space is used by police forces.
Tourism boss hopes for positive effects
According to Hierl, no speeding tickets have been issued so far.

Just like in Gerold, where, like in other surrounding towns, all parking spaces are blocked.
Officials have not received any complaints about this.
Just like with Wotan Lichtmess, head of the municipal works: "People accept it." He tries to let the local buses, which also head for the valley stations of the open mountain railways, run as scheduled as possible.
"But I can't give a guarantee." Depending on the situation, there could also be ad hoc failures or route changes.

Gerber is now hoping for nice pictures to be sent out into the world from the G7 summit.
“After two years of the pandemic, we are not yet where we were with international guests.” He hopes that the said television recordings will “give more attention”.
On the other hand, he does not expect any negative effects from the restrictions that guests and day-trippers currently have to accept in and around Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
"I think everyone can understand the current arrangements."
