The bill for greater control of firearms passed a key vote in the Senate on Thursday with bipartisan support, almost guaranteeing its final approval.
It passed with 65 to 34, thanks to 15 Republicans, including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, who backed the legislation along with the entire Democratic caucus.

could take place this Thursday afternoon
, reported the leader of the Democratic majority in the Senate, Chuck Schumer.

Schumer praised the efforts of the bill's top negotiators: Sens. Chris Murphy, D-Connecticut;
John Cornyn, Republican from Texas;
Kyrsten Sinema, Democrat from Arizona;
and Thom Tillis, a Republican from North Carolina.
"I thank you. The United States thanks you. We will continue to see the job done," Schumer said.
