Dr. Dima victim, a pediatrician, stressed the need for individuals, societies, institutions and organizations to combine efforts to raise awareness of the problem of drug trafficking and its devastating damages to individuals, especially children and adolescents.

During a symposium organized by Al-Basel Specialized Hospital in the Karm Al-Lawz neighborhood in Homs, a victim referred to addiction on the occasion of the International Day for Drugs, which falls on the 26th of June of each year, to the devastating health effects of drug abuse, the most important of which are the high heart rate and blood pressure and the increased chances of strokes, lung diseases and seizures. In addition to the psychological effects of mood swings, agitation, fatigue, weakness, anxiety, depression, violence, hallucinations and delusions.

The victim called on the parents to pay attention to their children, listen to them, talk to them, inform them of feelings of love and care, raise their awareness of the dangers of drugs, and pay attention to any urgent behavioral or health change in the child or adolescent, stressing the need for early intervention and saving children and young people before falling into the trap of drugs and addiction.

In turn, Dr. Marah Al-Zain pointed out that the most important causes of drug abuse among adolescents lie in bad companions and lack of interest in education and family problems, pointing to the emergence of signs of adolescent abuse, which can be noticed by parents, the most important of which are rebellion, mood swings, theft, lying, deterioration of public health, weakness, pallor of the face, apathy, lack of appetite, depression and weakness. And frequent absenteeism from school and home and spending money.

Al-Zein pointed out that according to statistics, more than 40 percent of adolescents worldwide tried drugs once last year, as the desire to get the dose increases, especially at the age of 15 years, which requires stressing the role of the family and parents in protecting their children, preventing the danger of addiction, instilling values ​​and raising them on morals. The correct social principles and awareness of the dangers of drugs and their harmful effect on the individual and society.
