3,421 soldiers from the French battalion of the UN fought there, between 1950 and the armistice of July 1953, within an international coalition in which the United States played the leading role.
In what was a high-intensity conflict, the battalion received four French Army citations, three US presidential citations, two Korean presidential citations, and nearly 6,000 individual citations or decorations.
