One of the most famous triathlon events stops in Frankfurt.

We have summarized what is important now about the Ironman 2022. 

Frankfurt – In the water, on a bike and on foot: a total of 228 kilometers will be covered at the 20th Ironman in Frankfurt.

The swimming lap in the Langener Waldsee starts on Sunday (June 26), as reported by fnp.de.

Then the up to 4,000 participants will go on the bike course.

This leads out of Frankfurt to Florstadt in the Wetterau district and back again.

Two laps must be completed on it, as stated on the organizer's website.

The final marathon lap leads along the Main and the skyline of Frankfurt, which has to be completed four times before it goes to the home straight on the Römerberg.

Ironman Frankfurt 2022: The starting signal will be given at 6.30 a.m. on Sunday

It starts on Sunday at the Ironman European Championship in Frankfurt at 6.30 a.m.

The men start in the professional class.

This is followed by the professional women at 6.32 a.m. and the so-called age-groupers (amateurs) start in the newly introduced rolling start between 6.40 a.m. and 7.00 a.m.

    The professional men start at 6.30 a.m., the professional women start at 6.32 a.m., the amateur start is between 6.40 a.m. and 7.00 a.m.

    The fastest athletes will probably need around eight hours for the 228 kilometers.

The course record at the Ironman in Frankfurt is 7 hours 49 minutes and 48 seconds for men and was set by Jan Frodeno in 2015.

Daniela Ryf set it for women in 2018 with 8 hours, 38 minutes and 44 seconds, according to ironman.com.

During the Ironman 2022 there will be significant traffic delays in Frankfurt.

The city of Frankfurt therefore asks you to use the S-Bahn and U-Bahn, as these will not be affected.

Trams and buses are affected by changes.

After that, between the main station and Allerheiligentor, there will be a diversion via Sachsenhausen.

Line 12 (Fechenheim Hugo-Junkers-Straße – Schwanheim Rheinlandstraße)

Runs between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. only between Mönchhofstrasse and Heilbronner Strasse.

After that, between the main station and Allerheiligentor, there will be a diversion via Sachsenhausen.

Line 15 (Niederrad Haardtwaldplatz – Südbahnhof)

Detour between 6.30 a.m. and 10.30 a.m. to the main station, the Südbahnhof cannot be approached during this time.

Line 16 (Ginnheim – Offenbach city limits)

Line interruption between main station and south station between 6.30 a.m. and 10.30 a.m.

From Ginnheim it ends at the main train station, coming from Offenbach it is diverted to Louisa.

Changes on Sunday (June 26)

Line 25 (Berkersheim – Nieder-Erlenbach)

From 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. only on the move between Harheim Tempelhof and Berkersheim train station.

Line 29 (Nieder-Erlenbach – north-west center)

Runs from around 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. only between Nieder-Eschbach and Nordwestzentrum.

Line 30 (Bad Vilbel train station – Friedberger Warte)/line M43 (Bornheim Mitte – Bergen Ost)

Between 7:45 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., lines 30 and M43 run as a joint ring line from Bornheim Mitte via Friedberger Warte and Heiligenstock/Lohrberg to Bergen and from there on the route of line M43 via Seckbach back to Bornheim Mitte.

Line 30 cannot run between Heiligenstock and Bad Vilbel.

Another ring line M43 runs between 6 a.m. and 3 p.m. via Vilbeler Landstraße, Borsigallee and Riederwald to Bornheim.

Line M32 (Ostbahnhof – Westbahnhof)

From around 8.30 a.m. to 5 p.m. only between Ostbahnhof/Sonnemannstraße and Günthersburgallee.

Line M34 (Gallus Mönchhofstraße – Bornheim Mitte)

Runs from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. only between Mönchhofstrasse and Homburger Landstrasse/Marbachweg.

Line M36 (Westbahnhof – Sachsenhausen Hainer Weg)

From 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. only between Westbahnhof and Eschenheimer Tor and between Südbahnhof and Hainer Weg.

Line 40 (Enkheim Hessen-Center - Bergen Ost)

Runs only after 3 p.m.

Line 42 (Enkheim metro station – Bergen East)

Between 6:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., the Enkheim station and the Bergen district cannot be approached.

The line runs on a circuit between the light and the Riedbad in Enkheim.

Line 44 (Seckbach Leonhardsgasse – Fechenheim Friedhof)

Until about 3 p.m. only between Leonhardsgasse and Birsteiner Straße.

Line 61 (Airport Terminal 1 – Südbahnhof)

Between around 5:30 a.m. and 10:00 a.m., buses from the airport will be diverted via the A5 motorway and from the Niederrad exit on the southern bank of the Main, via Lyoner Straße and Goldsteinstraße to the temporary Oberforsthaus terminus.

Closures for the Ironman 2022 around Frankfurt: The first ones start on Tuesday

During the Ironman in Frankfurt 2022 there will be various traffic disruptions.

The closures are announced for 3:30 a.m. and midnight on Sunday.

In some cases, closures will begin as early as Tuesday (June 21).

  • List of closures around the Ironman Frankfurt 2022:

  • Altenstadt:

    The closure in this area is announced between 7:40 a.m. and 2:50 p.m.

  • Bad Vilbel:

    Between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Frankfurter Strasse will be closed on one side up to the "Frankfurter Strasse/Alte Frankfurter Strasse" roundabout.

    During this time, the Vilbeler Landstrasse will also be closed on one side.

  • Bergen Enkheim:

    In this area, the closure is expected to be between

    6.50 a.m. and around 1.15 p.m.

  • Büdesheim:

    On the day of the race, the B521 will be completely closed between 7.30 a.m. and 2.40 p.m.

    In Obergasse there will be a lock to cross the racetrack.

  • Frankfurt-Hanauer Landstraße:

    In this area there will be a partial or full closure of the streets,

    Nice view, Oskar-von-Miller-Strasse, Sonnenmannstrasse, Hanauer Landstrasse type.

    Here it will only be possible to drive to downtown Frankfurt.

    The motorway exit towards Frankfurt Ost from the A661 will be completely closed between 7 a.m. and 1.30 p.m.

    The exit and driveway to/from Offenbach will also be blocked.

    There will be a car lock on the Rückertstrasse to the Horst-Schulmann-Strasse.

  • Frankfurt-Mainkai in general:

    The Mainkai in Frankfurt will be completely closed from Tuesday (June 21), 8:00 a.m. to Monday (June 27), 10:00 p.m.

  • Frankfurt-Mainkai until 10.30 a.m

    .: The following streets around the Mainkai will be closed between 7.30 a.m. and 10.30 a.m. on the day of the event,

    Mainkai, Untermainkai, Untermainbrücke (passable from one side), Schaumainkai, Sachsenhäuser Ufer, Old Bridge, Schöne Aussicht, Oskar-von-Miller-Straße, Sonnenmannstraße, Konrad-Adenauer-Straße, Schuhmacher Straße.

  • Frankfurt-Mainkai 10:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.:

    The following streets around the Mainkai will be closed between 7:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on the day of the event: Mainkai, Untermainkai, Untermainbrücke (passable from one side), Alte Brücke, Schöne Aussicht, Oskar-von-Miller-Straße, Sonnemannstrasse.

  • Frankfurt-Mainkai from 1:00 p.m.:

    The following streets around the Mainkai will be closed between 9:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on the day of the event: Mainkai, Untermainkai, Untermainbrücke (passable from one side), Konrad-Adenauer-Straße, Kurt-Schumacher-Straße, Alte Brücke.

  • Frankfurt-Nordend-Westend:

    The B521 will be affected.

  • Frankfurt-Süd-West: The following are completely closed here between 6.30 a.m. and 10.00 a.m.:

    B44 (Frankfurter Landstrasse/ Mörfelder Landstrasse) - passable up to L3262, B43 (Kennedyallee) - passable up to L3262, Hans-Thoma-Strasse, Schweizer Strasse.

    In addition, the A3 “Frankfurt Süd” exit is closed when coming from Cologne.

    It is also not possible to exit the B43 in the direction of Frankfurt city center.

  • Altenstadt golf course:

  • Maintal Hochstadt & Wachenbuchen:

    Between 7:00 a.m. and 1:40 p.m. the following streets will be closed in this area: L3209, Bischofsheimer Straße, Hauptstraße, Wachenbucher Straße, L3195, K872/ Hanauer Landstraße, Dorfelder Straße, Hühnerberg.

    The locks are located in this area: Görlitzer Strasse to Bernauer Strasse, Schulstrasse to Hessenringstrasse, and one on the Hühnerberg.

  • Schöneck & Niederdorfelden:

    In Kilianstädten the closure will take place between 7.20 a.m. and 2.15 p.m.

    In Büdesheim between 8.10 a.m. and 3.55 p.m.

  • Stammheim:

    In this area, the closures will take place between 7:50 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
