A storm raged not only in the city of Moosburg on Monday, but also in agricultural areas all around.
Affected farmers should now pay attention to important things.
Moosburg
– The storm on Monday afternoon lasted only a few minutes, but the forces released were sufficient to cause severe devastation in the Moosburg region and parts of the Hallertau.
Among other things, a massive hail event destroyed many agricultural crops.
The responsible office for food, agriculture and forestry (AELF) Ebersberg-Erding is now turning to all affected farmers with an urgent message.
(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)
Because as a result of the hail damage around Moosburg, areas would now be broken up or fall out of use.
"In some places, storm wood also has to be stored on it," reports those responsible in a statement.
Her warning: "All of this can lead to distortions in funding law: If an area is plowed up before June 23, 2022 to sow a subsequent crop, this changes the main crop." This has negative effects on the prescribed crop diversification or on programs in which a certain crop rotation is prescribed.
After a storm in Moosburg: Farmers face problems
An exception applies to maize, according to the AELF: "From a funding law perspective, maize is always the main crop, regardless of whether it is the first or second crop."
It is also strongly advised to document the hail damage in advance with photos.
According to the announcement, further problems can arise from “that as a result of the hail event, for example, the legally prescribed harvest does not take place or takes place too early (large-grain legumes);
Trichogramma biological control of western corn rootworm may no longer be applied to maize fields because the maize has been destroyed.”
Affected farmers are threatened with funding cuts - AELF clarifies
In the event of severe storm damage in the forest, the prescribed ecological priority areas may have to be used as wood storage areas.
All of this could result in funding cuts.
In order to avoid such cutbacks and other problems, farmers whose crops change due to the current hail event should report "Force Majeure" within 15 days of the damaging event and report the change of use, early harvest, etc.
According to those responsible, this can be done quickly and unbureaucratically using the “iBalis” internet application.
Affected farmers can find more information on the website of the Office for Food, Agriculture and Forestry Ebersberg-Erding.
