The penalty is harsh.

More than a month after his re-election, Emmanuel Macron failed to obtain an absolute majority in the National Assembly.

What arouse the concerns of the executive, which used to be able to count on its very many elected officials to pass its texts.

Invited on TF1 on the evening of the results, the Minister for Relations with Parliament, Olivier Véran, however assured him: “

We will very quickly build a majority so that it becomes absolute.

A message reiterated by Emmanuel Macron himself, during his speech delivered Wednesday evening from the Élysée.

The Head of State called the oppositions to responsibility, and affirmed that he lacked "

thirty deputies out of 577

" for the presidential camp to become a real majority.

But is walking really so accessible?

The figures mentioned by the Head of State raise questions.

And for good reason.

If we take the results in detail, the distribution is clear: 248 candidates from Together!

were elected on Sunday evening.

Among them, 171 are more specifically from Renaissance (ex-LREM), 48 from Modem and 29 from Edouard Philippe's party, Horizons.

The absolute majority stands at 289 seats.

The calculation is therefore simple: Emmanuel Macron currently lacks no less than 41 parliamentarians.

So, technical error or hidden announcement?

Has the Head of State already succeeded in poaching certain elected officials?

Hard to say.

At this stage, no rallying has been formalized, and the parties rather tend to insist on their status as opponents in a position of strength.

"

We campaigned in the opposition, we are in the opposition and we will remain in the opposition

", had decided Christian Jacob, the president of the Republicans, the same evening of the results.

On the left, the room for maneuver is even smaller, the Nupes alliance does not intend to follow the call for "

overcoming

" launched by Emmanuel Macron.

We cannot respond to this phony invitation

,” railed the first secretary of the Socialist Party, Olivier Faure.

Each group has until Tuesday, June 28 at 6 p.m. to submit to the General Secretariat of the Presidency the list of each of its members and related deputies.

Until then, the negotiations between the different groups, if they exist, will be rather in the shadows.

What is certain is that the most moderate parliamentarians, of the center right or center left type, are in the sights of the executive, which sees potential allies there.
