NIS 420 million will be invested in the industry over the next seven years • Minister Forer: "Removing the caps will lead to a reduction in the price of beef to the consumer, will allow the local breeders to be maintained and supported."

The Ministries of Agriculture and Finance reached agreements with the cattle breeders' organization last night (Wednesday):

Customs duties on cattle imports will be abolished;

Hundreds of millions of shekels will be invested in the industry, and tens of millions of help each year.

Given the political situation, this agreement as well as any other agreement during this period requires legal approval.

According to a joint announcement by the Ministries of Agriculture and Finance, the ministries have reached agreements with the cattle breeders according to which the customs duties on the import of beef, and on the import of beef will be abolished in full.

According to the customs agreement, the import of beef will be abolished and the temporary order for exemption from customs duties on the import of cattle will become permanent, in such a way that the import of cattle will also be duty-free.

In addition, support for local growers in pasture has been increased, so that the total investment in the industry over the next seven years will be over NIS 420 million, and the support will reach up to NIS 54 million annually.

According to the announcement, the support will be given in light of the exposure to competition and the removal of customs barriers to imports.

The new agreement will provide certainty to cattle breeders and ensure stability for the industry for the next seven years.

The agreement includes a commitment by the government to act in order to increase the quota of foreign workers in the grazing industry.

Minister Forer undertook that the Ministry of Agriculture would initiate marketing, advertising and branding activities for local Israeli meat, so that it would be differentiated for consumers at points of sale, and would allow the consumer to choose which product to prefer.

In order to fulfill the commitment, the ministries will allocate another NIS 5 million this year in favor of investments in the industry, and an additional NIS 2 million in favor of encouraging efficiency in the industry.

This agreement requires legal approval, due to the complex political situation.

The Minister of Agriculture, Oded Forer, said: "This agreement brings another line to address the cost of living in Israel. Removing the caps will lead on the one hand to lowering the price of beef to the consumer, a product that has a growing demand year after year, and on the other hand will allow local growers to support them.
