The fact that you can never please everyone involved is something that the community of Baierbrunn is experiencing, where the question of which primary school children can attend lunchtime care and which have to make do with a place in the after-school care center further away has become a big issue.

Baierbrunn

- That's why Ravindra Nath (FDP) made an application in the municipal council to reconsider the allocation of places, which had actually only recently been regulated in a statute.

This resulted in a long discussion, in which the leaders of the "Mitti" were also involved, as well as Melanie Marganus from the administration.

Third and fourth graders disadvantaged?

The whole thing was also discussed in the citizens' assembly, parents had complained that first and second graders were given preference in the lunchtime care, which is housed in containers right across from the school.

Third and fourth graders are expected to take the B 11 to Wirthsfeld, where the Denk facility also runs one and a half after-school care groups.

Or entertained, because half the group has now been converted into a pure kindergarten group, after an additional group for fourth graders was set up in the midday care at the instigation of the parents.

With the effect that the “Mitti” is hopelessly overcrowded with 127 children, while Denk mit, a recognized integrative facility, has also taken in guest children from other communities.

"We have an error in the system," said Melanie Marganus at the meeting.

Nath also thinks that when it comes to the question of distribution, it must be taken into account how much the parents work and whether it is really true that they work.

Everyone in Baierbrunn has had to prove this since 2013, but there are also mothers who state that they are self-employed and work for their husbands for 16 hours.

"We have no means of verifying that," said Deputy Mitti manager Claudia Rapp.

Points system rejected

Nath had suggested establishing a points system that takes educational, family and social aspects into account and then allocating places.

This was initially not accepted by the municipal council.

Other points of the application, all of which had the content that the community should sit down with both institutions and talk about possible strategies, were followed by the committee with only one dissenting vote.

Demand for clear rules

Meanwhile, Marganus said it would be good to conclude four-year contracts with parents in the midday care, where places are currently only available for one year at a time.

Which would mean that in the future first graders will also have to go to after-school care.

"We need to start making clear rules," she said.

As full as the "Mitti" is at the moment, it is not possible to work intelligently with the protégés.

"But we don't just want to feed the children there."

City Hall Chief Patrick Ott (ÜWG) tried again and again during the session to put the drama of the topic into perspective.

"At least," he said, "we can offer all the children a place.

Other communities would appreciate that."

Christine Kammermeier, SPD: "We have to get the feeling that there is unequal treatment out of the community." Ultimately, it was decided to sit down with the facilities and the parents in the third quarter.

To find a solution.
