Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi affirmed that strengthening cooperation and coordination between his country and Russia enhances their ability to confront US sanctions and pressure on them.
During his meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Tehran, Raisi explained that the ongoing meetings and dialogues between Iran and Russia at the level of presidents and other officials are an indication of the two countries' serious determination for the fruitful strategic cooperation of the two peoples, especially in the economic field.
With regard to the crisis in Ukraine, Raisi expressed his country's readiness to help reach a diplomatic solution to it, stressing the need to stand against any attempts to expand the influence of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in any region of the world, including West Asia, the Caucasus and Central Asia.
The Iranian president pointed to the importance of cooperation of neighboring countries in the Caspian Sea region, stressing that no foreign military presence is allowed in this region.
For his part, Lavrov noted the level of cooperation between Tehran and Moscow, including in the economic field, stressing his country's readiness and interest in raising this cooperation to a strategic level.
Lavrov pointed to the importance of Iran's membership in the Shanghai Economic Cooperation Organization and to his country's support for expanding Iran's role in regional and international organizations.
