Mexico received its first shipment this Thursday with 804,000 thousand vaccines against covid-19 for children between 5 and 11 years old, from the pharmaceutical company Pfizer-BioNTech, the Ministry of Health reported in a statement.
The Secretariat indicated that another shipment with 1,200,000 additional doses will arrive in the country on Friday as "part of the strategy to guarantee sufficient vaccines for children in Mexico."

Mexico began last week to register children between the ages of 5 and 11 to receive the vaccines and this Thursday President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said at a press conference that "a considerable number" of minors were already registered.

Although the president said that the vaccinations of children between 5 and 11 years of age could begin "this weekend, at the latest next week", the Undersecretary for Prevention and Health Promotion, Hugo López-Gatell, confirmed that It will start next Monday, June 27.

"This phase will last approximately three months," López-Gatell said in a message on Twitter, adding: "We recommend that those who have COVID wait 15 days before applying the vaccine."
