Faisal Al-Miqdad, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, discussed today with a Nepalese military delegation, which included Army Commander Prabhu Raj Sharma and Defense Minister Kiran Raj Sharma, the bilateral cooperation between the two countries and the role of the Nepalese battalion in the UN Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF).

Minister Miqdad stressed during the meeting that Syria considers the presence of the United Nations peacekeeping forces important, but it must be temporary, because the stability of the region requires compliance with the relevant Security Council resolutions, which consider Israel's decision to annex the Golan null and void and has no legal effect.

Minister Miqdad pointed to the need to deepen bilateral relations between Syria and Nepal in all fields, especially in the political and economic fields.

For his part, the commander of the Nepalese army expressed his thanks to the Syrian state for welcoming the presence of the Nepalese battalion within the framework of the UN Disengagement Observer Forces (UNDOF), stressing its commitment to its tasks within the framework of the United Nations work on the ceasefire lines in the occupied Syrian Golan and the principles of respect for the sovereignty and independence of Syria.

The Nepalese army chief pointed to the need to strengthen relations between the two countries, considering that this visit is a first step in this context.

The meeting was attended from the Syrian side by Ambassador Dr. Bashar Al-Jaafari, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Rania Al-Hajj Ali, Director of the Organizations Department, Tamim Madani from the Organizations Department, Rua Sharbaji from the Minister’s office, and from the Nepalese side, Amrit Bahadur Raj, Nepal’s delegate to the United Nations, other military generals and the Honorary Consul of Nepal in Syria Majid bid.
