The representative of the Republic of Crimea to the Russian presidency, Georgi Muradov, announced that the high demand for Russian passports in the Kherson and Zaporizhzh regions shows that the local population in the two regions tends to support the accession to Russia.
TASS news agency quoted Muradov as saying: As for the legal procedures, Kherson and Zaporizhia need to determine their own course. However, I know that the issuance of Russian passports encouraged support for the idea of restoring the historical region of Tvria, and this shows that the process of integration with Russia will continue.
Last month, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree granting Russian citizenship to residents of Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, according to simplified procedures.
The deputy head of the military and civil administration of the Kherson region Kirill Strimosov announced yesterday that this year a referendum will be held in the region on joining Russia, noting that the region has already begun the process of integration and residents are actively applying for Russian passports.
