Russia's war against Ukraine has far-reaching consequences - worldwide.

A Yale University historian describes Putin's grain plan.

Munich - The war in Ukraine is raging.

Heavy fighting is taking place in the east of the country around Sievjerodonetsk.

Meanwhile, a historian from Yale University in the US spoke of the "latest chapter of hunger policy" and the "next stage" in the escalated Ukraine conflict.

Ukraine war: "New stage of colonialism" - historian explains Putin's "hunger plan"

"Russia has a hunger plan," Yale historian Timothy Snyder wrote on Twitter on Saturday (June 11).

"Vladimir Putin is preparing to starve out much of the developing world as the next stage of his war in Europe," Snyder continued at the beginning of his in-depth post on the platform.

Ukraine War: That's the grain situation

Ukraine is considered the granary of Europe and before the war was one of the world's largest exporters of corn and wheat - mainly to North Africa and Asia.

Russian blockades in the Black Sea also pose a serious problem for grain exports from Ukraine, as do heavy attacks.

Experts fear a global hunger crisis.

If the Russian blockade were to continue, "millions of people in Africa and Asia would starve," wrote Snyder.

However, according to the historian, the idea behind controlling Ukrainian grain is not new.

He drew a comparison to Hitler and Stalin, but on Twitter he called Vladimir Putin's plans "a new level of colonialism".

He believes, according to the historian, that Putin's starvation plan has three distinct stages, with one overarching goal:

US intelligence sees a turning point in the Ukraine war: the West is still faced with the weapons dilemma

  • Stage one:

The hunger plan is part of an attempt to destroy the Ukrainian state by stopping its exports.

  • Stage Two:

People would start fleeing from areas normally supplied with grain from Ukraine.

This would in turn lead to instability in the EU.

  • Level three:

Putin would use the mass deaths as a backdrop for a propaganda competition.

"As food riots begin and hunger spreads, Russian propaganda will blame Ukraine," wrote historian Snyder on Twitter.

Russia would then demand recognition of the territories in Ukraine and the lifting of sanctions.

"Russia plans to starve Asians and Africans to win its war in Europe," the Yale historian tweeted.

Meanwhile, Federal Minister of Agriculture Cem Özdemir pledged German support to Ukraine to maintain its agriculture and grain exports in the ongoing Russian war.

"The success of Ukrainian agriculture is not only important for Ukraine, it is important for all of us," said the Green politician on Friday (June 10) during a visit to an agricultural college in Nemishayev near Kyiv.

The trip also discussed alternative routes for the country's exports to global food security in the face of blocked ports.

Most recently, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov traveled to Turkey for talks about grain deliveries from Ukraine.

There was no real solution to the problem.

Instead, at the request of a Ukrainian journalist, an explosive scene took place.
