Rostock Mayor Claus Ruhe Madsen (non-party) is to become Economics Minister in the future black-green state government in Schleswig-Holstein.

The German press agency learned this from a reliable source.

NDR 1 Radio Mecklenburg-Vorpommern initially reported on Thursday.

So far there has been no official confirmation.

Kiel/Rostock - CDU state leader and Prime Minister Daniel Günther wants to officially announce his open ministerial candidates next Monday at a party conference in Neumünster.

The Ministers for Agriculture and Justice/Health have not yet been appointed either.

Günther's re-election as prime minister in the state parliament is scheduled for Wednesday.

The entire cabinet is then to be presented and sworn in.

In the future, the CDU will have five specialist departments.

Karin Prien remains Minister of Education, Sabine Sütterlin-Waack Minister of the Interior.

The Greens provide the ministers for finance (Monika Heinold), social affairs (Aminata Touré) and Tobias Goldschmidt (environment).

Born in Denmark, Madsen (49) came to Germany as a furniture dealer and opened a furniture store in Rostock in 1998.

His entrepreneurial commitment and his unconventional manner brought him to the top of the Rostock Chamber of Industry and Commerce.

He used the post to raise his profile and make political contacts.

In 2019, after a runoff election, he became the first foreign mayor of a major German city.

Recently he came under massive criticism.

Critics see his leadership as a reason for the failure of the multi-million dollar Buga project.

Because completion dates for important construction projects cannot be met, the largest city in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania had to cancel the Federal Garden Show planned for 2025.
