During the night (Wednesday to Thursday), the Knesset approved MK Zvi Hauser's proposal to adopt the IHRA's definition of anti-Semitism.
In doing so, the Knesset joins more than a thousand governments, parliaments, bodies and organizations around the world that have already adopted the definition.
The proposal passed by a majority of 33 supporters (from the coalition and the opposition) against five opponents including MKs of the joint list.
IHRA's job definition fits the definition of the term anti-Semitism in modern times and states that anti-Israelism is also part of the phenomenon of anti-Semitism.
MK Zvi Hauser,
MK Hauser: "After examining, researching and demanding, it emerged that the Israeli parliament has not yet adopted the IHRA definition of anti-Semitism for all the behaviors and ideas contained in it, including" applying double standards "to the State of Israel).
Therefore, I worked to raise a resolution on the issue on the Knesset agenda.
I am proud and excited that the Knesset approved my proposal and thus joined over a thousand parliaments, organizations, local council governments that have adopted this definition and examples of modern anti-Semitism, including opposition to the right of the Jewish people to self-determination.
This is an important step in the war on anti-Semitism. "
The wording of the definition as approved: “Antisemitism is a certain perception of Jews, which can be expressed as hatred towards Jews.
"Verbal and physical expressions of anti-Semitism are directed at individuals, Jews or non-Jews, and / or against their property, against institutions of a Jewish community and religious sites."
