The Ministry of Overseas, ultimately, is not "the most beautiful portfolio there is".
After five years as a member of parliament, Yaël Braun-Pivet had just taken up her post as minister of the French overseas departments and territories.
And bam, here she is a candidate for the presidency of the National Assembly where she will be, barring a huge surprise, elected on Tuesday, June 28.
She will therefore leave the government after… a month.
"Becoming a minister is no longer the Holy Grail", observes an adviser who points out to us that Gérald Darmanin, yet Beauvau's place and number three in the protocol order, also toyed with the idea of the perch before finally giving it up.
