The two defendants are: a 17-year-old boy surnamed Zhang and Guan Haokan (19 years old).

The two are accused of damaging the planters, walls and main entrance of Leung Chik Wai Memorial Secondary School in Lok Sin Tong, Tsing Yi with fire on July 24, 2020.

Zhang was also charged with damaging the main entrance and possessing two telescopic rods on May 25 of the same year.

It is believed that the police officer did not warn the first defendant

The first defendant, a young man surnamed Zhang, was ruled unsubstantiated during the trial. The judge explained that he believed that the police officer did not warn him, and that he had threatened him to sue him for rioting and arson. He even claimed that his parents would be arrested. He believed that the police officer deliberately violated the rules and deprived him of it. The suspect's right to silence, not satisfied with his confession, ruled that the first defendant's testimony was untenable.

Gloves found near school have defendant DNA

In the case of the second defendant, Guan Haokan, the judge pointed out that there were two suspects before the crime, holding petroleum gas cylinders and a can, one of them wore light blue gloves, and then set fire to the main entrance of the school. Later, the police found a pair of light blue gloves near the school. The blue gloves, believed to be the gloves left by the arsonist, contained the DNA of the second defendant, so the second defendant was convicted of arson.
