Big surprise in the Eichenau municipal council: the mayor of the Ukrainian twin town of Vischgorod, Aleksej Momot, was a guest.
He wanted to express his thanks personally.
Eichenau - "We asked for help, we got it quickly," said Momot, also in relation to the many transports of food and medical equipment.
Two tank fire engines and two ambulances, organized by the municipality of Eichenau, are urgently needed in the war zone.
They should help to maintain the infrastructure - as far as that is possible.
Momot said that the partnership between Eichenau and Vishgorod has reached a new dimension.
There was always a good connection.
“But now I know what real friendship is!” the mayor said to the local councillors.
He also described his personal feelings to them.
"It is still difficult to understand that there is a war in our country." Even if it is comparatively peaceful in Vishgorod, nobody was prepared to have to be afraid.
Before the vehicles can be transferred, a number of modalities still have to be clarified.
According to Eichenau's mayor Peter Münster, they should go on the journey in the course of the coming week - with a Bavarian and a Ukrainian driver each.
Münster would have liked to see firefighters from Vischgorod in Germany being trained in how to use the vehicles.
But that was not allowed because of the military situation.
Momot had come to Eichenau with a delegation from the Vishgorod Rayon and the Kyiv Oblast on a kind of diplomatic visit.
This required a special permit from the Ukrainian military.
Momot was also accompanied by his wife Marina Stupnik, who has a very close connection to Eichenau.
As a young girl, she was one of the first to come to Bavaria in the 1990s.
