At the weekend, the left meets in Erfurt for the party conference.

Ex-group leader Sahra Wagenknecht heats up the directional dispute in advance.

She accuses the party leadership of breaking with the peace policy.

Berlin – The left is looking for a way out of the crisis – again.

But when the delegates meet at the weekend in Erfurt for the party conference, it's literally about the whole thing.

The party is fighting for political survival.

The last elections: all lost.

The survey values: in the basement.

The management staff: at odds.

Left before party conference: Sahra Wagenknecht calls for a change of course – “last chance”

From the point of view of ex-group leader Sahra Wagenknecht, the party congress is “the last chance to turn things around again”.

She calls on the party to reposition itself in terms of content and personnel.

"We need fresh, convincing faces at the top, personalities where people say: They really work for us," said Wagenknecht IPPEN.MEDIA.

Party leader Janine Wissler should not be meant by this.

Wagenknecht: "As is well known, a new beginning is the opposite of 'keep it up'." Wissler will be standing again at the weekend and has a good chance of being elected in a dual leadership.

In addition to the open question of leadership, a dispute is raging on the left.

The camp around ex-group leader Wagenknecht calls for more class struggle and a return to socio-political issues.

“In recent years we have tried identity politics and green lifestyle issues.

The lack of success does not speak for continuing on this path,” Wagenknecht told IPPEN.MEDIA.

Party Congress of the Left: Amendment appalled Sahra Wagenknecht

An amendment to the leading motion of the party leadership causes further trouble in the party.

The sentence has been deleted: "We will not accept any violation of international law." The reason given is that international law is indeed an achievement of civilization.

However, in certain cases it conflicts with the defense of human rights.

Wagenknecht sees the left turning to a military course: “That is the classic reason given by the USA for its wars that violate international law.

I am appalled that the Left Party executive is now also promoting so-called 'human rights wars' without a UN mandate,” she told IPPEN.MEDIA.

Wagenknecht also reiterated her criticism of dealing with Russia.

She described the sanctions as "completely crazy".

Ukraine should not be supported with more and more weapons.

There can only be peace through negotiations and a willingness to compromise – also on the part of Ukraine.

"When I hear that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says he wants to recapture all areas, that is subjectively understandable, but it is not a realistic war goal.

And also not one that one should reasonably support,” says Wagenknecht.
