"I ended his life," Laundrie wrote in the notebook recovered by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
The notebook, where Laundrie wrote in blue ink, was one of the personal effects found by the FBI in the Myakkahatchee Creek nature reserve in Florida, where the mortal remains of the 23-year-old were found.

The contents of the notebook were first revealed by the Fox News television network.
“I thought I was being merciful, that's what she wanted, but now I see all the mistakes I made.

The murder of Gabby Petito shook the country and sparked a manhunt to find Brian Laundrie, who fled after the discovery of his fiancee's body on September 19 in Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming.
Petito and Laundrie began a trip through national parks in July, documenting it on YouTube and Instagram.
But Laundrie returned alone to her home in South Tampa, Florida, in the couple's van.
Weeks later, Petito's family from New York declared her missing.
“From the moment I decided to take her pain away, I knew I couldn't go on without her,” Laundrie wrote in the notebook, saying the young woman had been injured in Wyoming.
He also asked for compassion for his family.
"Please don't make life difficult for my family," she wrote.

Neither Petito's nor Laundrie's family have commented on the content of the notes.
Both are facing each other in a civil lawsuit filed by Petito's family.
The lawsuit alleges that Laundrie's parents withheld information about his son's whereabouts from him while he fled from justice.
Laundrie's notebook has been returned to the young man's family.
