Friedrich Merz conquered the dance floor at his party's summer party.

The video caused a lot of laughs on the Internet.

Berlin – CDU leader Friedrich Merz is not necessarily known for a relaxed atmosphere.

The Sauerlander usually rests in himself and symbolizes the appearance and conservative style of his party.

At this year's summer party of the CDU/CSU in Berlin, the 66-year-old shows himself from a completely different side: the politician drops all the reins on the dance floor - and gets a lot of ridicule for a video on Instagram.

To the song "Lady Bump" by Penny McLean, Merz literally stormed onto the dance floor and let his hips circle surprisingly easily.

The CDU chairman uploaded the video snippet in a story on Instagram - and involuntarily became the latest German Internet hit.

The dancing Merz quickly made the rounds on social networks and numerous creative users modified the clip with other songs.

On the well-known meme page "kanzlermeme", for example, Merz dances to the hit "Jiggle Jiggle" by Louis Theroux.

"Too early in the day for something like that," said an amused user, while another user with a mischievous emoji sensed a certain similarity between Merz and the television character Bernd Stromberg: "Violent Stromberg vibes." Everywhere for astonishment, the comment "unheimlich..." of a user should describe the mood of many users quite aptly.

"Uncomfortable, enough internet for today," said another of the CDU chairman.

The politician's Instagram page commented on a dancing emoji with the abbreviation "tm" for "Team Merz".

The dance routine seems to bring the 66-year-old sympathy points from outside his party.

"Only love for the dancing #Merz," writes comedian Micky Beisenherz on Twitter, for example.

After the short-term success, it remains to be seen whether Merz will also rely on his dance moves in future performances.

Who knows, maybe one day they could bring the decisive advantage in the election campaign.
