Washington, D.C., USA

Young protesters against legal abortion celebrate the moment of decision before the Supreme Court.

The US Supreme Court on Friday overturned the country's abortion rights.

It had been in effect for almost five decades and had been reaffirmed several times since 1973.

Six of the nine judges now voted in favor of the decision that the constitution does not grant the right to an abortion.

The verdict triggered horror, especially among supporters of the Democratic Party.

“To see the Supreme Court Justices siding with this radical agenda is simply mind-blowing.

As a woman, as a mother, as a grandmother, to see that young women now have fewer rights than their mothers and even their grandmothers is very sad for our country.

Be alert!

Republicans plan a nationwide ban on abortion.

This is dead serious.

But we won't let them get away with it.

Women's right to free choice, reproductive freedom is up for vote in November.

We cannot allow them to call the shots so that they can initiate their goal: to criminalize reproductive freedom.”

With the new ruling, the 50 states can each decide on an abortion right at the state level.

Several of them have already enacted laws that severely restrict abortion now that the federal regulation has been removed.

About half of all states are likely to take such a path.
