The 2022 G7 meeting in Elmau is imminent.

Many citizens of Garmisch have no problem with the event.

But with serious consequences.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen - The hustle and bustle around the G7 summit in Elmau is picking up speed.

Not only in Munich does the highest security level prevail in view of the prominent political guests: Even in the southern district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the scene of the meeting of high-ranking politicians, the effects are more massive than in the state capital.

From Thursday, the police helicopter squadrons will be preparing intensively for the meeting of the heads of state and government of the seven major economic powers, the police press office said.

The people in the Garmisch area are also facing further burdens in connection with the G7 summit these days.

The officials have already asked the population for understanding of the flights and the associated background noise.

In addition to the hustle and bustle on the ground, massive air defense exercises are also carried out, while the requirements for air traffic are enormous.

Helicopters have been circling over the region for exercises for some time.

G7 summit 2022 in Elmau: aircraft noise disturbs residents - parking spaces are becoming scarce

Many residents of Garmisch-Partenkirchen are annoyed by the large-scale operation on their doorstep.

"Fuck G7, thanks for nothing," reads the message in a shop window in town.

These days, people's living environment is full of police, so numerous parking spaces outside and near bathing lakes are blocked.

One or the other says that you no longer know where to park.

There are even police cars at the cemetery, but there are still funerals for which the mourners will have to dodge.

A barrier in the Kurpark also enraged the people of Garmisch.

There is a lack of understanding about the security with a kind of barbed wire in the parking lot of the congress center, where the federal police are quartered.

A spokesman for the federal police said it was about personal security.

However, at the G7 meeting (summit in numbers) they want as little disruption as possible for the residents.

"It doesn't make such a comfortable impression," says Michaela Nelhiebel, chairwoman of the Garmisch Center advertising association.

In addition, there are queasy feelings about an alleged security threat: if the police protect themselves in this way, some wonder whether it will really remain peaceful.

In Munich, there were arson attacks on eight team buses and police equipment on Wednesday night.

A BR talk show also made it clear how high the potential for frustration about the situation in Garmisch is.

G7 summit 2022: Elmau as a hotspot of high-ranking world politics - "War in Europe"

The head of the police G7 planning team, Manfred Hauser, campaigned for support for the measures.

"You will experience impairments here for the next few days, also with aircraft noise," said the President of the Police Headquarters in Upper Bavaria South, also in view of the upcoming exercise.

"It is essential to test our security concepts."

The world situation has changed since the last summit at Schloss Elmau in 2015.

"Our host countries, who are here on Elmau, expect the highest safety standards from us," said Hauser.

"There is war in Europe, we didn't have that in 2015." He thanked the population "very warmly".
