Jan 22, 1973 - 

Roe v.

Wade - The US Supreme Court, in a 7-2 decision, affirms the legality of a woman's right to an abortion under the Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution.

The sentence was annulled on June 24, 2022.

2003: 

President George W. Bush signs legislation called the Partial-Birth Abortion Prohibition Act of 2003. The law uses a nonmedical phrase to describe a late procedure that involves dilation and removal of the fetus.

The law has been challenged in the courts, including the Supreme Court, which upheld the law in a 5-4 ruling in 2007.

May 2, 2022:

Politico publishes what it calls a draft of a majority opinion written by Judge Samuel Alito that would nullify the holding of Roe v.

Wade of a federal constitutional right to abortion.

The court confirms the authenticity of the document on May 3, but stresses that it is not the final decision.

The opinion in the case is not expected to be published until the end of June.

The Hyde Amendment prohibits the use of federal funds such as Medicaid to obtain or perform an abortion, except in cases of rape, incest, or if the life of the mother is in danger.

Some states fund abortion in circumstances other than those required by the Hyde Amendment.

The Supreme Court of the United States annulled this Friday the Roe v. Wade case, considering that the federal constitutional right to abortion no longer exists.

Statistics 2019

2019 is the most recent year for which the CDC has released statistics.

The total number of abortions increased 2% from 2018 to 2019. There were 11.4 abortions per 1,000 women ages 15-44.

According to the CDC, 79.3% were performed at or before week 9 and 92.7% were performed at or before week 13.

About 9% were done after 13 weeks.
