For most deputies, the first days in the Assembly generally take place between boxes and long forms to fill out for the administration.
However, a first crucial battle is already looming: that of the election for the presidency of the powerful finance committee.
Its prerogatives are numerous: controlling and examining the State budget, requesting administrative documents from departments, notably ministries, or even accessing documents protected by fiscal secrecy.
The issue is very political since, since Nicolas Sarkozy in 2007, the rules of the Assembly explain that
"can only be elected to the presidency (…) a deputy belonging to a group having declared itself in the opposition" .
The vote by secret ballot is scheduled for June 30 by the members of this body, distributed in proportion to the size of their group in the Hemicycle.
Custom dictates that the presidential majority does not take part in the vote.
