– The MTV Berg is celebrating its 100th anniversary this weekend.

For many decades of its history, he has been concerned with the question of premises, especially for the gymnastics department.

Plans for a gym came to nothing because it was too expensive.

Since 2013, the club has been pursuing the plan to build a so-called multifunctional building at the training ground at Huberfeld, with a gym, changing rooms and space for the office.

This also threatened to fail because of the cost increases.

The municipal council approved the plans of the sports club on Tuesday and underlined its willingness to finance the project.

The MTV building alone is said to cost almost 1.7 million euros.

If a house for the Harkirchner riflemen is also built in a second construction phase, it will cost another almost 500,000 euros.

MTV put a lot of money into plans for a gym that was never built and the multifunctional building.

From a 500,000 euro donation that he once received for the gym, there are now 120,000 euros left, as MTV boss Andreas Hlavaty said in the municipal council.

The club wants to use this for the construction, and Hlavaty also expects 200,000 euros in grants from the state sports association.

The municipality is to pay the remaining costs of 1.35 million euros.

A proud sum that provoked discussions in the municipal council.

For example, because of the expected further price increases in construction.

“The end of the road has to be at 1.3 million, MTV has to pay for the rest itself,” demanded Stefan Monn (EUW).

Verena Machnik (Greens) preferred an overall concept: there is not only a need for MTV, but also for a new kindergarten and business.

MTV boss Hlavaty, who has been a member of the municipal council for the CSU for many years, fended off this attempt: "After 20 years in this body, I prefer the sparrow in the hand to the dove on the roof." Third mayor Elke Link (QUH ), who was also involved with MTV for many years, underlined the need to improve the situation at the Huberfeld soccer field with its makeshift containers.

Only Katrin Stefferl-Wuppermann (Greens) dared to make a move that called the whole project into question: "Why don't we just do the bare essentials, i.e. showers, toilets and changing rooms?" The design now envisages a two-story building for the MTV with an office and caretaker's apartment on the top floor, and a second, one-story house for the shooters.

The latter will have to wait, that became clear at the meeting.

Their buildings should only be erected if sufficient money is available.

The Harkirchner Schützen have been homeless for five or six years after a fire in Manthal and are now training in Percha.

For their home, the municipality would have to spend 465,000 euros.
