Blocking the B 471 with a monster diversion causes a shake of the head - road builders explain their approach

Extensive traffic disruptions are expected of motorists.

Both B471 and B2 will be completely blocked for a longer period of time.

District – B 471 and B 2 are the busiest traffic routes through the district.

Many trucks also use the B 471 as a tangent from the Stuttgart to the Lindau Autobahn.

Now both are temporarily closed completely for renovation.

Traffic jams and disabilities are inevitable.

But the road construction authority asserts: There is no other way.

From Wednesday, June 29, the B 471 between Fürstenfeldbruck Mitte and the Schöngeisinger Straße exit will be closed.

The roadway is renewed.

This lasts until mid or late July.

After that, the surface of the B 2 between Puch and the Mammendorf roundabout will be upgraded.

Then it is completely blocked there.

Two-way traffic in one lane is not possible

According to a spokesman for the building authority, it is not possible to keep the routes open at least for two-way traffic with a traffic light solution during the construction work.

On the one hand, there would be a seam in the new surface between the tracks and the heavily used roadway would soon break down again.

On the other hand, extensive safety measures would then have to be taken for the workers and the renovation would take much longer.

On the B 471, grass pavers are also laid on the verge, which requires additional space.

The fact that the closures were announced at such short notice was due to an internal communication problem in the building authority.

The next excitement is the official diversion.

It has now been announced for the B 471.

Because it must also be passable for large trucks and, for a federal road, it must not contain any sections that are classified lower than state road level, it leads via Mammendorf, Jesenwang, Moorenweis, Türkenfeld and Grafrath.

"In times of GPS, all possible routes will be used"

Even the road builders are under no illusions that drivers who know the area in particular will choose short cuts.

"In times of navigation systems, all possible routes will be used," said the spokesman.

The city of Fürstenfeldbruck has announced a diversion route that traffic can use to get to the commercial area in Brucker West, for example to Coca Cola.

One route leads via Schöngeisinger-, Landsberger-, and Cerveteri- to Industriestraße.

There, too, abbreviations will probably be the norm.

Mammendorf's Mayor Josef Heckl is anything but enthusiastic about the blocking of the B 2. "We are a bit irritated." Officially, the community has not been informed at all about the construction work.

Heckl also fears that many motorists will look for shortcuts - to the chagrin of affected residents.

"We're excited to see how it goes," said the town hall boss.
