Encouraging graduates to face challenges with their rare disease experience at 18

At the graduation ceremony, Hon CHAN Chi-si addressed the graduates.

Mr CHAN pointed out that graduating means that graduates have entered the next stage of their lives and may feel confused about the future.

Based on his experience in his youth, Mr Chan encouraged graduates not to be too anxious when facing this turning point in their lives, he said calmly: "I was admitted to university at the age of 18, and I found out that I was diagnosed after only two weeks of admission. Rare disease, and since then I have started an extraordinary university life. During my entire university career, I spent three years in the hospital, and finally graduated in the fifth year." Mr. Chen further stated that he was not a Xiu originally. I studied art, and later chose art as a major subject, because the art department allows students not to attend school, so that he can study while recuperating.

Mr Chan recalled that the ups and downs of his illness were like a roller coaster. Even after graduation, he was still tossed by illness from time to time.

He said that when he first faced the challenge of this disease, he also felt unacceptable, and he once chose to escape or even complained.

It was only later that I slowly figured it out. Mr Chan said to the graduates, "It is inevitable that society will face many challenges in the future. The question is what attitude should we take to face it. It takes time to accept the fact that you have to face this challenge." Mr Chan also emphasized that no matter what, we must not shy away from difficulties, accept our own challenges and overcome them with positivity and optimism.

Hon CHAN said frankly, "In 2005, the then Chief Secretary for Administration, knowing that I was studying art at university, invited me to handle conservation projects in Hong Kong, but I asked myself that I was not familiar with conservation and had never thought about art and conservation. It was related, but in the end I also accepted the challenge, and later became the chairman of the Revitalizing Historic Buildings Advisory Committee and the Antiquities Advisory Committee to restore Tai Kwun, PMQ and Lui Sang Chun." Mr Chan also joked to himself Five years ago, when he became the chairman of the board of directors of the Hong Kong Palace Museum, he had not had the opportunity to set foot in the Palace Museum before, but he had a positive attitude, kept learning, and used his own experience and knowledge to overcome many challenges.

Finally, Mr Chan Chi-sik said to the graduates earnestly, "Although knowledge is important, it is impossible for us to be proficient in every field. People's attitudes are equally important.
