All sixth graders in the Ebersberg district must bring their yellow vaccination card to school so that the health department can point out vaccination gaps.

A changed paragraph causes confusion.

District

– All children who are currently in sixth grade in the district of Ebersberg have the homework from the health department to bring their yellow vaccination book to school, where a health department employee will review them confidentially.

"Often the young people and their parents are not aware of vaccination gaps," writes the authority in a corresponding circular to the legal guardians.

No consequences for vaccination gaps - just a note

As homework is, it is mandatory to show the vaccination book.

However, sanctions do not threaten if the shot against measles, tetanus or corona is missing - the children get a piece of paper in their vaccination card that tells the parents that they have to catch up.

In addition, the data is used nationwide to calculate official vaccination rates – anonymously, the authorities promise.

Family man concerned about dates and stigma

That's not enough for the father of a student from Glonn.

He is worried about his child's data and that it could be stigmatized because it was vaccinated against everything possible but not against Corona after going through an infection.

"In general, I see vaccinations as important," says the man, who does not want to be named, of the EZ.

"But that has a taste.

He's right about one thing: The corresponding article 14 in the Health Service and Consumer Protection Act, to which the health department refers in its letter to parents, no longer exists since June 1st.

It was replaced by a passage in the new Health Services Act.

The Ebersberg health department promises the EZ: "The letters have (...) been updated and will be sent to the parents or guardians in a timely manner via the schools."

Vaccination book review for sixth graders is legal - Health Department: "Age very well suited"

The office has a legal basis, contrary to what the father assumed.

"The law states that existing vaccination cards (...) must be presented at the school entry examination (...) and at other school vaccination consultations.

Vaccination has become a ticklish topic since Corona.

The health department promotes the vaccination book review, which has been mandatory since 2013 and is carried out on behalf of the Bavarian Ministry of Health.

the age of the sixth graders is "very suitable", since some initial and refresher courses are recommended during this period.
