The corona numbers are still high despite the high temperatures, and the RKI is again reporting a sharply increasing incidence.

Berlin – It was supposed to be a relaxed summer, many people had longed for the warm temperatures after two years of the corona pandemic.

But the Robert Koch Institute has been reporting steadily increasing numbers of infections for days, and the seven-day incidence is also climbing higher and higher.

Corona summer wave: RKI again reports a sharp increase in incidence

The RKI gave the nationwide seven-day incidence on Friday morning as 618.2.

The day before, the value of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants and week was 532.9 (previous week: 427.8; previous month: 307.2).

However, it is important to note that the incidence does not currently provide a complete picture of the infection situation.

Experts have been assuming for some time that there will be a large number of cases not recorded by the RKI - mainly because not all infected people have a PCR test done.

Only positive PCR tests count in the statistics.

In addition, late registrations or transmission problems can lead to a distortion of individual daily values.

Corona numbers in Germany still high - but how meaningful are the values?

The health authorities in Germany recently reported 108,190 new corona infections (previous week: 28,118) and 90 deaths (previous week: 19) to the RKI within one day.

However, the values of the previous week are not very meaningful due to a public holiday (Corpus Christi) in several federal states.

In addition, comparisons of the data are only possible to a limited extent due to the general test behavior, late registrations or transmission problems.

In general, the number of registered new infections and deaths varies significantly from weekday to weekday, since many federal states do not transmit them to the RKI, especially at weekends, and report their cases later in the week.

If virologist Christian Drosten has his way, Germany will have to prepare for a new wave after the summer holidays.
