Dora Maar's photographic collection, the last act of her estate

2022-06-24T15:12:40.343Z

Some 350 lots will be sold on June 27 and 28 at Artcurial. A sale negotiated with the heirs of Picasso's muse, to promote posthumous prints.

These are the very last lights of the succession of Dora Maar, the close friend of the surrealists, the muse of the ogre Picasso, the artist who passed from shadow to light during the major retrospective of 2019 at the Center Pompidou .

And this is a first for a sale of his photographs: 750 shots grouped into 356 lots and presented, for each one, with the original negative, the period contact print and a contemporary print enlarged to 30 by 40 cm, specially produced , under the control of the rights holders.

This raises questions about the purpose of these posthumous prints, made from negatives in very good condition, in order to make this sale more attractive and commercial.

“As much as those of Man Ray were wanted but, to my knowledge, not those of Dora Maar”

, wonders a Parisian merchant who knows a lot about the subject.
