Federal Food Minister Cem Özdemir (Greens) expects food prices to continue to rise before the start of the food conference.
Özdemir
expects
price increases
: according to the Federal Minister of Food and Nutrition, food prices in Germany have not yet peaked.
Further price increases
: Shortly before the start of the nutrition conference on Friday, Federal Food Minister Cem Özdemir (Greens) warned of further increases in food prices.
Özdemir explained that further relief for poor households would be needed after the 2022 relief package.
The Green politician told the
Tagesspiegel
that many manufacturers currently have to invest more money in energy and would pass the additional costs on to customers.
Farmer President Joachim Rukwied also recently announced further price increases.
In this context, Özdemir reiterated the demand for the abolition of VAT on fruit and vegetables.
He thinks this is good, according to the minister, “because consumer spending plays a major role, especially for the poor and because it would also contribute to healthy nutrition.” Özdemir said he currently doubts whether the traffic light coalition under Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) currently give a majority for the proposal.
