Berlin – Corona tests are currently free of charge.
Still.
Until the end of June, all people without cause or symptoms are entitled to at least one rapid test per week by trained staff.
The federal and state governments are now discussing how to proceed from July.
The issue is the money.
The financing of the tests has not yet been decided.
Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) said on Thursday that a package should be presented, which he is still negotiating with Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP).
He was sure that a solution could be presented in the next few days.
That could happen Friday afternoon.
At 1 p.m. Lauterbach wants to speak at a press conference on how the Corona citizen tests will continue.
Survey shows Test-Pro: Majority for free corona tests
A majority of the German population is in favor of continuing to offer the Corona citizen tests free of charge to everyone.
According to a survey by the opinion research institute YouGov, 50 percent of Germans reject the idea that from July 1st only patients with symptoms of illness and selected groups of people, for example in the health sector, will be entitled to free tests.
38 percent support this, the rest made no statement.
On June 23, the institute surveyed 2,886 people in Germany aged 18 and over.
