Unusual escort: Police officers escorted a herd of cows through the secured G7 summit area. A few hundred sheep have to graze further in the valley. Meanwhile, things are getting more uncomfortable in Munich.

Around 130 cows were herded across the security area around the G7 conference venue at Schloss Elmau to their alpine pasture under police protection on Friday.

The animals had to cross the temporary helipad paved especially for the summit, where the state guests are supposed to land - this is usually a hikers' car park.

The legacies of the cows were immediately removed, reported a police spokesman.

"A sweeper has been called in to restore the square to its proper condition."

Police expect 20,000 demonstrators in Munich

Numerous drivers from the Garmisch-Partenkirchen area would have accompanied the cows on the way to the Wettersteinalm.

Police officers are already on site in the security area.

They would have opened the fence that was built around the castle to allow the cows to pass.

Normally, since Sunday, the four square kilometer security area around the conference venue can only be entered with accreditation.

Meanwhile, a few hundred sheep have to graze in the valley first.

The lift originally planned for the summit weekend was postponed to the following weekend in a joint meeting between the police and the Partenkirchen pasture cooperative because of the G7 operation, the police said on request.

The buoyancy is generally carried out on weekends, since the buoyancy assistants would take on this task in their free time.

The G7 meeting will take place for the second time from June 26th to 28th in the luxury hotel Schloss Elmau at the foot of the Wetterstein Mountains.

One day before the summit begins, thousands of people want to take to the streets at a central demonstration in Munich.

15 globalization-critical associations from Attac to the environmental organization WWF called for this.

The police expect at least 20,000 participants from 12 p.m. – if the weather is nice, significantly more.

In addition, the emergency services expect a black block that could cause incidents.
