Lufthansa had to cancel hundreds of flights in July due to a lack of staff.

Shortly before the trip it comes: the bad news that the flight to the holiday destination had to be cancelled.
Many citizens who are ready for vacation then fall into a state of shock from horror.

In general, if airlines are forced to cancel a flight due to extraordinary circumstances such as a natural disaster, the airline does not have to pay compensation.
As the General German Automobile Club (ADAC) further informs, customers cannot demand any compensation payment if they have informed the airline about the cancellation at least two weeks before departure.
Even if the airline offers you alternative transportation, you are not entitled to financial compensation, according to the ADAC

Request substitute transportation for canceled flights
Julia Rehberg from the Hamburg consumer center sees it differently: "
I'm always entitled to a refund
if
the flight is cancelled
.
So I have the opportunity to say I don't want to anymore, I want my money back," said Rehberg in an interview with NDR Info.
Anyone who has independently searched for an alternative and booked it, for example a train journey or a flight with another airline, does not have to bear the costs themselves, according to the Hamburg Consumer Advice Centre.
These would have to be reimbursed by the airline that canceled your flight, says Rehberg.
"In our opinion, the airline also has to compensate for consequential damage such as hotel costs if it cannot prove that it was not at fault for the cancellation," continues the consumer advocate.
Important for canceled flights: Get in touch with the airline immediately and either request equivalent
replacement transport
from the airline or request your money back.
